Today we are excited to talk about the benefits that are currently being put in place for Veterans with disabilities in Illinois. They give so much of their lives for us, the least we can do is help them out on their property taxes. We are here today with Jaymi Barringer, who will tell us a little bit about how veterans with disabilities are saving on their property taxes in Illinois. 

  
If you or somebody you know is a veteran with a service related injury and the VA has awarded you a certain percentage of disability, the state of Illinois has come in and offered additional discounts off your property taxes. If you are over 70%, you are completely exempt from property taxes.

Recently, Zillow bought Trulia for $3.5 billion in a deal many in the industry are talking about. To be honest, we really haven't thought much about it. While these sites are a great source to begin a home search, they offer little else of value.

These sites have a large quantity of information, but the quality of it leaves a lot to be desired. Many a home searcher has come away feeling frustrated after finding the perfect home, only to call an agent and realize it's no longer available. This happens often, making the home buying process a whole lot more stressful than it needs to be.

Another example of the misinformation of these sites can be found in their home evaluations. Recently, a home here in Central Illinois closed for $120,000. After the sale, its "zestimate" valued it at $137,500! The reason for this discrepancy is the fact that Zillow and Trulia are international websites - they don't have knowledge of the local market. Because they don't know what's going on here in Central Illinois, their estimates are often thousands of dollars over, or under, the actual market value.
